ABOUT US
Get to know us: The Heart and Hunger Project is committed to tackling food insecurity and empowering communities with compassion.
Hello!
My name is Nethuki Wickramasuriya
The founder of the Heart and Hunger Project! Driven by a deep passion for community service and social impact, I created this initiative to combat food insecurity and bring hope to those in need. Over the year, I’ve led efforts to distribute over 1,000 food packages, fundraised to support our mission, and developed creative promotional content to amplify awareness about hunger issues.
For me, this project is not just about addressing immediate needs—it’s about inspiring others to take action and fostering a community where compassion leads to tangible change.

My Mission
Together Against Hunger
The Heart and Hunger Project was inspired by a deeply personal realization. Seeing how comfortable and well-cared-for my dog was compared to the struggling stray dogs I encountered in Sri Lanka in the summer of 2023 opened my eyes to the inequities in care and nourishment. I remember buying loaves of bread and tossing them out the car window whenever I saw a hungry dog, driven to help in any way I could, making me feel helpless to the cause. That simple act of compassion grew into a mission as I returned back home, which was to combat food insecurity, not just for animals but for underserved communities, ensuring everyone has access to the nourishment they need. Join me on my mission to continue saving, and supporting individuals and stray dogs in need.
